Ireland Tour Short Summary

Lough Lannagh Holiday Village in Castlebar, Co Mayo was our base for the five days. Our first concert in St Nicholas Church in Galway hosted by Mark Duley. Next day after a visit to the Museum of Country Life and a reception by the Mayor of Sligo our host Joe Kelly in Sligo had organised a concert in St Anne's church.  On the Saturday morning we were part of a very moving ceremony at the Peace Park Garden of Remembrance in Castlebar. This was followed in the evening by a concert in The Church of the Holy Rosary organised by our main hosts for the whole visit Eamonn Horkan and Declan Durcan, followed by a wonderful afterglow. On the Sunday a short tour of Westport and Croagh Patrick followed in the evening by a special "Irish Session" laid on for us by Michael Baynes at Cox's bar, a very special event to finish off a memorable trip.

The Reading Festival of Choirs held at the Concert Hall on March 28th  celebrated the 40th Anniversary of the Reading Phoenix Choir.
Others performing with the Phoenix and RMVC were Reading Bach Choir, Basingstoke Ladies Choir, plus children's choirs from Highlands and St Joseph's schools. MC for the night was Gareth Malone from BBC TV's "The Choir". Sadly it was the last concert Norman Morris MD of the Phoenix conducted, a triumphant farewell to a distinguished musical career.
